Abstract
With the influence of information technologies, EFL learning and teaching have experienced transformation. This study explores how multimedia software can be integrated into writing instruction to improve EFL college students' metacognitive writing ability. A comparative empirical research was conducted and narrative analysis was used to process 50 college students' reflection on their writing process. The Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach (CALLA) was adopted with the help of multimedia software, such as QQ, Blog and i-Write. The findings of the study reveal that the students in the experiment group show a better metacognitive writing ability than students in the control group. Technology-supported metacognitive writing instruction can boost learners' writing motivation, confidence and improve their writing.
