Abstract
We have developed an ELID (ELectrolytic In-process Dressing) grinding technique that creates mirror-like surfaces on Ti-13Zr-13Nb alloys. To create a smooth surface, a metal-bonded grinding wheel was used for rough grinding and then a rubber-bonded wheel was used for final grinding. The optimum conditions for rough processing were a rotational speed of 400 rpm, a cut depth of 0.5 mm, a 40 mm/s feed rate of the work , and pitch interval for feeding in the y-direction of 1 mm. For final grinding, the optimum spark-out scanning time was 20 min. This new ELID processing technology decreased surface roughness to 30 nm (Ra).
