During a number of oceanographic campaigns performed in 1997 and 1998 in different European waters, measurements of the in-water light field and chemical analyses on simultaneously collected water samples were combined to derive local algorithms relating the Sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence to the concentration of chlorophyll-a.
