Abstract
Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) plays an important and critical role in many applications and researches as motion control applications and conversion and conserving power energy. There are a wide variety of techniques to generate PWM signals. One of them is microcontroller-based PWM signal as used in PIC microcontroller. PIC-based embedded system developers can invoke a function called “PWM_Init” to program PIC microcontroller to produce PWM signal with a predefined fixed frequency. There are number of obstacles for using this method as: there is no chance to alter the frequency during execution time of the application. Also, there is limited number of PWM channels of PIC. Two-Timer Mechanism (TTM) is proposed to solve these problems. This paper presents a mathematical model and open source computer-based program called Pulse Width Modulation Tool. It is used for deciding the best prescalar value and best initial count value for two PIC timers that are used with TTM technique.
