The Effect of Preschool Education on Mathematics Score: A Study from Mexico Pre-school Children Performance

Abstract

The Mexican government has invested heavily in preschool education in recent years and access to basic education is increasing. To measure the effectiveness of this initiative, this paper selects students' performance in mathematics as the measure. This paper uses the most recent data from the 2008-2013 questionnaire, adding family background factors as secondary variables, to create an OLS model. This paper status the preschool is crucial for increasing the scores of mathematics. The result indicates that students who have attended pre-school improve their future mathematics performance. Children's math achievement improved if the family was from a family with a high household income, siblings living together, a better educated mother, a father of superior status and someone in the family to read stories to the children.
