Abstract

This paper analyzes the characteristics of an electric vehicle traction motor unit combining an interior permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motor and PM-assisted synchronous reluctance motor. Their individual operational characteristics are first investigated. The effective combination of the two motors to achieve a wide constant power speed range (CPSR) is also evaluated. The Urban Dynamometer Driving Schedule driving cycles are used to evaluate the combined traction unit.
