Abstract
In order to improve the dynamic performance of digital controller and reduce the energy consumption of algorithm computation simultaneously, a Dual-mode controller consisting of PID and SM controllers is proposed. The Dual-mode digital controller addresses transient and steady-state modes. To accommodate fast dynamic response, the SMC law is adopted in transient mode. In steady-state mode, the PID control law which is clocked at a frequency lower than the converter switching frequency for consideration of energy consumption is applied to minimize power consumption. This paper takes a Buck converter as an example to analyze the Dual-mode application in SMPS. The simulation and experimental results are presented.
