Abstract

The present power grid system face a number of challenges associated with the integration of variable renewable generation. In that manner, it is very crucial to plan the delivery of power from all generation sources to meet rapidly growing demand considering clean and sustainable grid and low-cost investment. This paper presents a multistage methodology to handle uncertainties of wind and load for transmission expansion and reactive power planning. In the first, TEP is performed considering N-1 security. In the RPP stages, the capacitors and static var compensators are considered for normal and contingency conditions, respectively. The scenarios based on corresponding confidence intervals of load and wind with certain accuracy are used in each stage. Finally, the obtained network is tested using AC-OPF under worst scenarios to determine whether reinforcement is required or not to avoid any violation. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated using the IEEE-24 test network.
