Abstract

ABSTRACT When questions about the validity of our creative choices begin to arise in our classrooms and rehearsal spaces, we feel the need to justify and clarify the integrity of these choices. This editorial looks at the impetus behind our call for proposals on the issues of race, representation and their intersections with empathy. What has come to light in the last few years, and since the #MeToo movement, that has impacted how our art is being perceived and consumed? What have we learned and what have we sacrificed in order to merge with these new and contentious discussions?
