Abstract
RadioRateTransformer is a broadband wireless routing system that can implement ~10Mbps high-speed ad-hoc networks for mobile vehicles at 10km/20km/30km long distance per link. It legally leverages VHF/UHF radio's large transmission power allowed by FCC to exchange critical control information such as GPS coordinates, then implements legal broadband services using gigahertz radio with ≤1watt (≤30dBm) transmission power and high-gain directional antennas. Our field tests have proved that a legal mobile ~10Mbps broadband link is always feasible whenever and wherever a pair of 8-watt handheld VHF/UHF radios can talk to each other.
