Order Consolidation: One Step in Containing Serials Prices

Abstract

The acquisitions budgets of many libraries arc suffering from the effects of rising serials prices. As libraries are forced to cut the size of their serials collections and cut back on new orders placed, serials vendors are feeling the effects of diminishing business growth. Libraries may gain more favorable service charge rates and better service by consolidating their serials orders with a single vendor or by showing a willingness to switch all their business from one vendor to another. Now may be the optimal time for libraries to gain by reconsidering their present vendor arrangements
