Abstract
The results of the investigation in the free-electron laser based on the diffraction radiation effect with a two-mirror spherical-cornered-echellette resonator and three electron beams-a multibeam echelettron are presented. This type of device is intended to generate the mm-and sub-mm wave EM radiation with high spectrum quality. The first results of the experimental studies suggested that this oscillator offers the EM oscillation power of more than 10 W at the 5-mm wavelength in the continuous mode, at voltage about 2 kV and the operating current of /spl sim/0.1 A, with a substantially sparse spectrum.
