Abstract

A self-powered weak light LED-LED communication was demonstrated, in which the transceiver could be powered by a white LED module. Both OOK and PPM modulations were compared and it was shown the PPM modulation has more advantage under the situation of the low signal to noise ratio. The highest achievable bit rate under the FEC threshold of the bit error rate versus the lowest transmitted optical power of the LED-LED link was investigated. A bit rate of 10Mbps was achieved by 16-PPM with the transmitted optical power less than 100μW.
