Abstract
In this paper, the interaction between xanthotoxin and DNA was studied by resonance light scattering spectroscopy. Then the DNA saturation binding value with xanthotoxin was calculated and compared with the saturation values of ethidium bromide (EB) and bergapten. The saturation DNA binding value can be used as a basis to determine the intensity of drug molecule and DNA interactions. The greater the saturation value, the stronger the DNA intercalation ability and the potential toxicity of a given drug molecule. The results showed that the DNA saturation binding value of xanthotoxin is 0.18, and the saturation values for EB and bergapten are 14.70 and 0.18. As a consequence, it appears that the potential toxicity of xanthotoxin is lower than that of EB and equal with bergapten. The aim of this paper is to provide the basis and reference for using xanthotoxin and avoiding its possible risks.
