Abstract

Candidate bus is a critical determinant of an effective and economical VAR planning. This paper proposes a novel candidate bus selection method based on Latin hypercube Sampling based Morris Screening Method, aiming to identifying the most efficient and effective buses as the candidate buses for VAR planning. Wind power uncertainties and the load dynamics are considered in this method, which makes the proposed method more practical. Complex load model is also considered in this paper to address the adverse impact of the induction motor loads on the power system. Cases studies are carried out on the New England 39-bus test system.
