Abstract
The main objective of this paper was to explore resources and promotion of rural tourism from the residents' perspective. The study areas are Lindi, Morogoro and Shinyanga regions in Tanzania. A qualitative approach was used to obtain information from the respondents. Face to face interviews with the residents comprising the youth, men, women and elders provided insights on resources and promotion of rural tourism. The results indicated that there was no awareness of rural tourism in relation to existing farm related resources such as millet, cassava and coconut trees as well as resources like clay. The findings imply that investment is needed to market and promote awareness of rural tourism among the residents in order to fully utilize existing resources such as clay soil to create arts, pots and toys which tourists can buy as souvenirs.
