Abstract

Flux switching machines with hybrid excitation offer several interesting features compared to conventional permanent magnet machines. Since the permanent magnets as well as the excitation winding are mounted on the stator, cooling can be performed easily. Also, the usage of slip rings can be avoided. A simple rotor structure employs the possibility to operate the machine in a high speed range. This paper presents two types of flux switching machines with hybrid excitation. Their benefits and drawbacks are discussed. The Finite Element Analysis simulation results as well as measurement data of a prototype machine are presented.
