Abstract
The main aim of this work is to performnumerical analysis of heat transfer in heatsinks using fins of different shapes. Ansys FLUENT has been used for the present simulation. Authors have used rectangular and conic shaped fins arranged in staggered fashion for the analysis. The effect of aerodynamic shaping of fins on thermal behavior of staggered plate heatsinks were analyzed in the present study. The present results were validated with the numerical and experimental results found in open literature. The comparison of staggered rectangular and conic fins were performed by considering quality factor, pumping power and heat transfer rate experienced by the respective fins. It has been observed that aerodynamically shaped fins have better overallperformance in terms of quality factor and pumping power.
