Abstract

In this paper, a new permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance machine (PMaSynRM) with three-layer magnet arrangement is proposed for electrical vehicle applications. To confirm the merits of the presented PMaSynRM, the Nissan leaf 2012 interior permanent magnet machine (IPMM) is selected as a benchmark. The basic electromagnetic performances of the two machines are investigated and compared by finite element (FE) method. The simulations show that the proposed design exhibits a better flux weakening capability, higher torque density and lower torque ripple than Nissan leaf 2012 IPMM.
