Abstract

To improve the quality of images collected by the wireless capsule endoscope (WCE) and to decrease the system energy consumption, we proposed a novel design of WCE. This WCE system integrates a CMOS sensor with an optional JPEG compression engine, a low power consumption high-performance micro-controller and an ultra low power RF transceiver in a small capsule (less than 10mm× 25mm). Experiment results show that this WCE system can collect much more images with its JPEG compression engine and the image quality can also be improved.
