A rare glimpse into the Chinese novella

Abstract

The Chinese novella has been playing an important role in the evolution of modern Chinese literature. To provide English readers with a rare glimpse into the heart of contemporary Chinese fictional writing, this paper introduces the content and style of a book titled By the River: Seven Contemporary Chinese Novellas, and comments on its English translation from perspectives of a reader. This book is a handsomely recommended production for readers who are interested in Chinese literature or novellas.
