Drawing on Latour’s\u0000 Actor-Network Theory (ANT), this study attempts to explore the networking procedure of the translation activity on the website\u0000 Wuxiaworld of the Chinese martial arts novel Horizon, Bright Moon, Sabre, examining the dynamics of the formation\u0000 and function of the network and the roles played by the actors involved. It focuses on the four aspects delineated by ANT: the\u0000 confirmation of the scenario, the problematization of content, the enrollment of actors, and the completion of the network. The\u0000 findings suggest that the translation practice on Wuxiaworld establishes a well-constructed, not a random and unorganized,\u0000 network, which attracts loyal fan-readers, enrolls qualified translators, maintains a well-functioning network, and presents a\u0000 dynamic structure of immediate interactivity. All these lead to a new and reshaped translator-reader relationship of instant\u0000 interaction.
FORUM / Revue internationale d’interprétation et de traduction / International Journal of Interpretation and Translation

This study explores how interpreters adapt to these challenges,\u0000 specifically the functionality of live transcripts generated automatically by Zoom\u0000 Meetings in RSI. The study aims to: (1) investigate whether access to live\u0000 transcripts enhances the overall performance of interpreters; (2) explore\u0000 whether RSI with live transcripts increases cognitive demands; (3) identify\u0000 visual attention patterns in RSI with live transcripts. A group of professional\u0000 interpreting trainees (N = 13) were recruited for the study to\u0000 examine their interpreting with live transcripts and interpreting without live\u0000 transcripts, which yields three preliminary findings: Firstly, using live\u0000 transcripts significantly improves overall interpreting performance. Secondly,\u0000 RSI with live transcripts is more cognitively demanding. Lastly, live\u0000 transcripts attract the highest visual attention during the interpreting\u0000 process.
FORUM / Revue internationale d’interprétation et de traduction / International Journal of Interpretation and Translation

The native language and cultural background of a translator can be\u0000 a factor potentially affecting the selection of equivalents and translation\u0000 procedures. This paper aims to explore whether being a normal or a service\u0000 translator would have any effect on adopting source- or target-oriented\u0000 translation procedures. ‘Service translators’ are those who translate into a\u0000 foreign language, while ‘normal translators’ are those who translate into their\u0000 mother language. In other words, normal translators should be target-language\u0000 native translators. The corpus includes the realia extracted from The\u0000 Holy Qur’an and its four English translations by two service\u0000 translators (Abdel-Haleem 2005 and\u0000 Starkovsky 2005) and two normal\u0000 translators (Arberry 1955 and Abu Nasr 1985). The data were analyzed\u0000 on the basis of Liang’s (2016) model.\u0000 Findings revealed that the normal translators showed a slightly greater tendency\u0000 (1%) towards source-oriented procedures than the service translators. On the\u0000 other hand, target-oriented procedures adopted by the service translators\u0000 exceeded those of the normal translators by 0.50%.
FORUM / Revue internationale d’interprétation et de traduction / International Journal of Interpretation and Translation

Although professional translators argue that the machine translation output is not refined enough\u0000 to surpass human translators, their claims are sometimes emotional and based on incorrect perceptions, without verification and\u0000 substantiation from user evaluation and specific quality evaluation data. Therefore, this study examines the evolution of NMT\u0000 output from English to Korean diachronically and provides specific user evaluation data that can verify and substantiate the\u0000 claims. Despite the steady improvement in NMT performance observed in recent years, it has been recognized that there is still a\u0000 significant gap that must be bridged for NMT to achieve parity with human translation. This poses questions over whether human effort to polish an MT is worthwhile or whether it would be more efficient to translate manually. However, to date, fewer attempts have been made to compare the cognitive effort in the PE process and the sub-phases (orientation, drafting, and revision) of PE with that of Human Translation (HT). To fill this gap, the current study aims to investigate and compare cognitive effort in HT and PE processes in translation from Chinese to English. Data were collected via eye-tracking and keyboard-logging approaches from 25 participants recruited to fulfil three HT and three PE tasks respectively. The comparison of cognitive effort was made from the processes of HT and PE, and their different sub-phases. The study reveals a significant difference in cognitive effort, orientation duration, and drafting duration between HT and PE.
FORUM / Revue internationale d’interprétation et de traduction / International Journal of Interpretation and Translation

Working within an understanding of Gile’s sequential model of translation (2009) the TI and ELI adopted separate pedagogical roles, for the most part, based upon their areas of expertise.\u0000 However, these roles overlapped in ‘acceptability tests’ and when ‘translator’s creativity’ was called for, and these practices\u0000 suggest the greater potential of team teaching to elevate the learning and development of students, creating opportunities for\u0000 students to more deeply examine issues of translation and language. Nurturing the creativity of students may be an especially\u0000 productive area in which translation education and language education can be productively intertwined. This study is an example of\u0000 team teaching within translation classes and, ideally, will contribute to further explorations of how these practices can be\u0000 effectively implemented and examined.
FORUM / Revue internationale d’interprétation et de traduction / International Journal of Interpretation and Translation
