Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of complements and their functions through a Chinese children's story book entitled 《遇到困难不退缩》 tuìsuō by Zhāng Yuèzhēn published by 三辰影 diànzǐ in 2019. The book consists of 40 sheets, presenting readings with pinyin and pictures. This research is expected to provide readers with new knowledge and a deep understanding of complementarity in Chinese through children's stories so that they can be understood easily. In this study using a qualitative descriptive method as a method to present a data. This research is a syntactic study that uses the theory of Li Dejin dan Cheng Meizhen, besides the techniques used to analyze the data use note-taking techniques and literature study. The results of the complementary analysis in the Chinese children's story book contained 23 data and were divided into five complementary Chinese classifications, namely, direction complement, result complement, degree complement, probability complement, and frequency complement. The analysis of the Mandarin language complement that has been found is expected to be a reference for readers which is used as a form mastery of learning Chinese syntax in the sentence formation section.
