Abstract

The conclusion I have argued for in chapter 5 is not that it is either permissible or impermissible to select against disability, only that there are some ways that we ought not to argue in favor of selection against disability. Arguments favoring giving birth to a baby without a disabling impairment because this child will have a better life than a child with the disability are problematic, because in the end they amount to the view that the lives of disabled people are inherently suboptimal.
