So far, the implementation of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) policies in higher education has not been optimal in achieving the expected goals as shown by several research results. One of the contributing factors is due to the diverse understanding of universities in interpreting the criteria for implementing Islamic Religious Education policies in higher education. This study seeks to analyze the criteria for implementing Islamic Education policies in higher education based on the prevailing laws and regulations in Indonesia from the perspective of general education.This study uses a qualitative approach and descriptive methods. The researcher acts as a key instrument. The data collection technique used document study. Data analysis includes data reduction steps, data display and data verification.
