On morphology, geography and taxonomy of Achnanthes woltereckii Hustedt

Abstract

Achnanthes woltereckii Hustedt was described in 1942 from the Lake Wawontoa (Sulawesi, Indonesia). In 1999 Lange-Bertalot transferred this species to the genus Achnanthidium Kütz. We revealed this rare species in Lake Matano (Sulawesi, Indonesia), another lake from the Malili lake system, and studied it by means of LM and SEM. Based on our morphological observations it became evident that Achnanthes woltereckii should be transferred to the genus Karayevia Round et Bukht. ex Round.
