Abstract

Purpose of the study: The subject of consideration is the process of adaptation and assimilation of children from Ukraine after the traumatic experience of the Russian invasion and forced emigration, which meant the need to adapt to life in the new reality. The main focus of the article is on the measures taken by Polish educational institutions, and above all on the support provided to Ukrainian children in terms of alleviating the stress associated with the transition into the mode of learning in a new place and a foreign language. This requires the implementation of a program of therapeutic activities tailored to the needs of children in war crises. Methodology: The article was prepared based on the method of critical review of the literature on war trauma and the literature treating the emigration of children from Ukraine affected by war in the context of the adaptation and assimilation process that takes place in Polish educational institutions, as well as the analysis of therapeutic cases appearing in the professional work of the author of this publication. Main findings: The study shows that the process of adaptation of emigrants to life in the new realities is based primarily on assimilation and integration while excluding their separation and marginalization. Polish schools that receive students from Ukraine should provide them with appropriate conditions, which means implementing new organizational solutions and taking the necessary care and educational measures to enable children to actively participate in classes. Application of the study: The presented article deals with the emigration of children from Ukraine taking into account the process of adaptation and assimilation in Polish educational institutions. It implies important considerations in the field of sociology and psychology. After all, thanks to the use of appropriate sociological tools, we can approximate and then analyze the problem of migration, which is an opportunity to improve the demographic structure (by inhibiting depopulation in Poland), while psychological tools allow us to trace the problem of emigration in terms of adaptation of children from Ukraine in new conditions in terms of the support provided to them (psychological and pedagogical assistance). Originality/Novelty of the study: The issue of emigration of children from Ukraine taking into account the process of adaptation and assimilation in Polish educational institutions has not yet been developed jointly in sociological and psychological aspects. This article, however, pays attention to both dimensions, since the situation can improve the demographic structure of Poland, which, however, requires providing children from Ukraine with adequate psychological and pedagogical assistance that will facilitate their adaptation and assimilation process in our country.
