Abstract

Optical properties of n-i-p-i superlattices embedded into a band-gap material are studied. Transmission and reflection spectra at the near infra-red range and the light intensity distribution inside the structure are investigated. Self-consistent calculations of the transmission and reflection spectra have been performed using the transfer-matrix method and with taking into account the gain saturation. Bistability effects which can be exhibited in photonic crystal heterostructure amplifiers are predicted.
