Research on college students' need for online learning

Abstract

By using the self-made questionnaire and with students from five colleges in Shanghai and Zhejiang participating in the survey, this research explores college students' need for online learning. The results show that: (1) according to the degree of importance, college students' need for online learning could be ordered as follows: the need for teacher's guidance, the need for school's guarantee, the need for online learning peer support, and the need for hardware facilities; (2) with regard to the need for hardware facilities and the support from their peers, male students' requirement was higher than female students'; (3) there were significant differences between students from cities and from rural areas in need for hardware facilities and teacher's guidance; (4) there were significant differences between different majors in the need for peer support.
