Abstract

There is always the tendency that some activities which involve politics, economics, social, religious, health, education or agricultural issues occupy or agitate the minds of the people in any cultural environment inhabited by human beings. The extent the individual or the group is affected depends on their levels of operations and interest within the society. From experience, it has been observed that the benefits or even the pleasure derived determine the commitment or sacrifice an individual may be willing to make for the advancement of his society. It is based on the background that some individuals devote their entire lives working very hard to ensure that majority of the people survive while others simple struggle to satisfy their personal aspirations within the system. It is on this realm that the writer is examined to ascertain the challenges he will be confronted with in his effort to champion the cause of the people in an evolving democracy in Nigeria. The goal is to assist the writer in the realization of this fundamental role in advancing democracy by ensuring that the people participate actively. This is because it has been realized that democracy in whatever form whether Western or African oriented cannot develop or function effectively without the involvement of the citizenry.
