Abstract
Defects are inevitable in the process of manufacturing and operation of rail vehicle structure, but the existing commonly used evaluation method cannot evaluate the structure containing defects. In this paper, in order to ensure the safety of rail vehicle operation, the methodology of "Fitness-For-Service" standard for defective structures based on the fracture mechanics is introduced, and the applicable scope and parameter calculation formulas of mainstream standards BS 7910, API 579 and GB/T 19624 are compared and verified by fatigue tests of rail vehicle feature samples. The results show that BS 7910 standard is superior to other standards in terms of applicability and accuracy of evaluation for railway vehicle structure. It is expected to provide reference and basis for railway vehicle industry service safety assessment and maintenance strategy.
