A solution for the spectrum efficiency is the use of DSS, where an operator can share the spectrum between two different technologies. This paper investigates the impact of the DSS feature for an LTE-NR system. Abstract

5G is the next mobile generation, already being deployed in some countries. It is expected to revolutionize our society, having extremely high target requirements. Moreover, it will bring new applications, new technologies, and increases on data rates, capacity, energy and spectrum efficiency, number of connected devices, among many others. The use of spectrum is, therefore, extremely important, since it is a limited and expensive resource, from the operator point of view. A solution for the spectrum efficiency is the use of DSS, where an operator can share the spectrum between two different technologies. This paper investigates the impact of the DSS feature for an LTE-NR system. Performance results are analyzed in terms of throughput and show that DSS constitutes a good feature for the future mobile systems, with an increase of spectrum efficiency and cost reduction.
