Distribution reliability modeling at Commonwealth Edison

Abstract

In the late summer of 1999, Commonwealth Edison experienced several major events impacting critical loads in downtown Chicago. These events led to multiple reliability improvement initiatives including the development of a predictive distribution system reliability model containing more than 3300 feeders. This paper discusses the reliability model, the modeling effort and a summary of results. In addition, the paper discusses the efforts to integrate reliability assessment into Commonwealth Edison's planning process.
