Abstract

A geotechnical study of Caudal’s valley (Mieres) is presented in this work, including a geotechnical detailed map and paying special attention to the analysis of the movements of terrain in the slope domains. The more suitable technical treatments to the different phenomena from instability observed (slides, creep, etc.) are putting forward, as well as the recommended types of foundations based on the existing geotechnical conditions. Finally, the stability of the present coal dumps in the zone is analysed in detail, reflecting the main characteristics of each one of them, and the problem of slope instability that can be generated in the future as result of the closing of the mining working is discussed.
