Abstract

A helical resonator coupled with a low noise amplifier is widely used for detection of trapped particles. Since the ion trap and amplifier load the resonator capacitively, it is required to estimate the resonant frequency of helical resonator under capacitive loading. In this paper, helical resonator with different values of capacitive loading is studied using HFSS software. A comparison is drawn among the estimated, simulated and experimental values of resonant frequency of helical resonant under different amount of capacitive loading. Finally, the helical resonator is coupled to a low noise amplifier and a loaded quality factor of 323 is obtained at a resonant frequency of 61.45 MHz.
