Abstract

One of the sources of external overvoltage in electrical networks is lightning discharges. Lightning (atmospheric) overvoltage is divided into two types: • direct lightning strike to current-carrying elements of the electrical network (overvoltage of direct lightning strike); • lightning strike near an overhead electric line or electrical switchgear (induced voltage surge), which is caused by the mutual electromagnetic connection of the lightning channel with current-carrying and grounded network elements.
