Manufacturing technology and the role of manufacturing research

Abstract

The complexity and the importance of manufacturing technologies and the role of manufacturing research in the advancement of technology are described. Leverage areas for timely introduction of products to manufacturing and scale-up to volume manufacturing are identified. Examples of several manufacturing research projects at IBM are given to illustrate key points.<>
