Abstract

Current source inverters (CSIs) featuring inherent short-circuit protection and no dv/dt issue are attracting increased attention in renewable systems. Existing single-phase 5-level CSIs have a current imbalance issue. In this work, a new single-phase 5-level CSI with inherent current balancing is proposed, and a new modulation scheme is developed. The operation principle is presented, and the performance of the proposed CSI and the developed modulation is verified by both simulation and lab-scaled experiments.
