Abstract
This paper focuses on a dynamic wireless power transferred electric scooter system using an electric double-layer capacitor (EDLC) unit. The newly developed motorcycle system is highly efficient, user friendly, and offers a solution to global environmental problems. Described is a newly developed EDLC scooter system with Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer (DWPT) as a next generation mobility concept for further diffusion of electric scooters. One of the important problems of the DWPT system is the charge and discharge cycle life of the storage device on the electric scooter. The Li-ion battery, which is widely used in EVs etc., has a limit of about 4,000 cycles. EDLCs, whose life performance is superior by far to conventional batteries, are applied for the new DWPT scooter as a power supply unit. A prototype using DD coils and a current controlled SEPP inverter has been designed. Experimental results are discussed from a practical point of view.
