One strong point is that through the different working modes, the total antenna physical volume can be reused which make the overall antenna pattern more compact. In the first design mode it can support GSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900, and UMTS. In the second antenna mode, it can cover GSM850, DCS1800, PCS1900, and UMTS. The designs are investigated when ideal switches is applied. The designs are verified through both numerical simulations and measurement of an experimental prototype. Abstract

New designs for compact reconfigurable antennas are introduced for mobile phones. Based on the new antenna designs a reconfigurable multiband operating antenna using in mobile phone is studied which can select two groups of operation frequency bands adaptively by electronically.
