Abstract

An asynchronous linear short stator machine with a massive secondary is investigated focusing on the slot geometry and the winding arrangement. An integer slot yoke winding and a fractional slot winding have been chosen since the crossing of phases in the winding overhang should be avoided. Force characteristics and flux density distributions in the air gap show that the integer slot winding yields higher thrust and higher attractive, but lower braking forces.
