Abstract
A new non-linear voltage gain buck converter belonging to fifth-order family is proposed in this paper. As this converter has non-linear gain characteristic, it gives more bucking than the traditional buck converter. A time-domain analysis is formulated to predict the converter steady-state performance. Also, the equations for designing the energy storage elements are established. Salient performance features, voltage bucking and source current ripples, of the non-linear gain converter are compared with the buck converter. Discrete-time models are obtained through state-space models, and then these are used in the controller design studies. The non-liner gain converter stabilization characteristics are studied through simulations. The key features are verified through computer simulations and experimental results.
