Abstract

As environmental conditions influence the lifetime of power semiconductors, understanding microclimates inside converter cabinets is indispensable. We present data from railway converters and observe dynamic humidity during operation. The results are explained by moisture diffusion in plastics and validated by simulation and lead towards refined requirement specifications for power semiconductors.
