E-Government Awareness and Usage in South Africa: Some Insights from Residents in Gauteng

Abstract

To develop insights and further extend knowledge on the level of e-Government awareness in South Africa, and how the South African citizenry make use of e-Government services to interact with their government, an evaluation of the e-Government awareness and usage patterns is conducted from a perspective of residents in three different provinces. The purpose of this study is therefore twofold; (1) to measure the extend of e-Government awareness in South Africa from a citizen perspective, (2) to measure the citizen behavioral patterns towards the use of e-Government services in South Africa. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether the concept of e-Government is known and practiced from a citizen level.
