these figures can be assigned to 15 taxa: 10 species, three genera, and two families; only one coat of arms contains unidentified plants. The floral figures distinguished belong to six elements (parts) of plants. Most of them are flowers – 105 figures in 27 coats of arms. Most often, emblems with floral elements were used in the following periods: 1250–1300, 1450–1600, 1850–1900, and 1950–2020. The most common one was the fleur-de-lis ( Iris pseudacorus ) – used 64 times in 16 coats of arms in the years 575–1978. The “nardo” in the coat of arms of Pope Francis turned out to be Polianthes tuberosa rather than Nardostachys grandiflora . No regularity was found in the use of floral figures.
