Abstract

Previously we have developed a bipolar-voltage-controlled optical switch using Ti:LiNbO3 intersecting waveguides [1]. Figure 1 shows the schematic structure and typical modulation characteristics of bipolar-voltage-controlled optical switch (bipolar switch) fabricated in Z-cut Ti:LiNbO3. The bipolar switch has the advantage of reduced switch element length and simplified multichannel integration compared with Δβ-reversal type directional coupler switch [2].
