Abstract

SC-FDE has been investigated as a possible alternative to compensate for modal dispersion in data center optical interconnects. The performance of this solution has been previously evaluated under the assumption of a theoretical channel with Gaussian profile. This paper investigates the transmission of SC-FDE using optical channels obtained from experimental measurements in OM-3 fibers. The experimental results indicated the existence of side lobes in the channel transfer function. However, these side lobes were so attenuated that the Gaussian assumption was a suitable approximation in all evaluated scenarios.
