Situation of self-stigmatization of HIV / AIDS patients outpatient treatment in Muong La district general hospital, Son La province in 2019 and some related factors

Abstract

*Background: The self-stigmatization of people living with HIV / AIDS is one of the barriers most important to HIV prevention and treatment. *Methodology: Cross-sectional study to access status of self-stigmatization of 211 subjects of patients who have been on ART for 03 months or more at Muong La district general hospital, Son La province in 2019. *Results: 76.3% of patients self-stigmatized their HIV status, of which the majority of subjects felt stigma by others was 67.3%; 21.3% feel disappointed, ashamed, 4.7% feel guilty and blame themselves. The multivariate logistic regression model showed that: female aOR = 4.47 (95%CI: 1.90-10.05); not sharing health status with relatives OR = 3.02 (95% CI: 1.43-6.39); do not share health status with friends OR = 3.63 (95% CI: 1.01-13.03) increases the self-stigma level. *Conclusions: The proportion of self-stigma in the study area was relatively high, and some characteristics related to self-stigma status were shared health status with others.
