The performance of E-TCQ is investigated for memoryless Gaussian, Laplacian, and uniform sources. E-TCQ is shown to outperform multi-stage TCQ. For Gaussian and Laplacian sources the performance of ETCQ shows large gains over the performance of scalar embedded quantizers.
