Abstract
This paper presents a two-stage service differentiation model for the Internet. The proposed model is based on a novel interconnection of the Differentiated Services (DiffServ) architecture and the Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP). Advantages of the proposed model, but also differentiations of other linking proposals are illustrated. An implementation specific method that tackles the problem of interconnecting the two mechanisms and that also ensures isolation and priority between RSVP and DiffServ is also presented. Correspondingly, the applicability and functionality of the model is demonstrated by creating a simulation model using the OPNET Modeler network simulation tool.
